Tell us about your creative process

We knew early on that we wanted to work with wood. It's solid, versatile, and easily accessible. At the same time, it provides a nice contrast to metal, which has a completely different character and precision. Since our design studio and workshop are in London, we knew this project had to be completed at the cabin in Norway during the summer holidays. That created some natural limitations, which also provided useful guidelines for how we solved the project.

Where did you get the materials from?

he wood is over 100-year-old paneling from an old barn in Dokka, Valdres. We know a carpenter there who runs a company called Aprilhaugen. They specialize in building preservation and have an impressive stock of old materials, which helped us select what we needed. We kept the rough texture and patina on the back of the wood, while the front was given a new color. For us, reuse is about giving the material new life without getting stuck in nostalgia, while still being transparent about where it came from.

In what ways do you incorporate sustainability or reuse into your work?

Sustainability is an integrated part of the design process. Material selection is one aspect, but it's just as important to create products that can be repaired, disassembled, and have a long lifespan. This is fundamental to everything we make.
